At their final meeting of the year, Extended Family’s board of directors approved an updated Purpose Statement which more completely describes our work:

Extended Family’s purpose is to positively impact families affected by incarceration by giving them tools to successfully adjust to a new way of life. Through targeted programs designed to teach individuals to “Lead Yourself”:

·       We equip adults and youth with the skills needed to break generational cycles of incarceration,

·       We prevent youth involvement in the juvenile justice system, and

·       We support successful reintegration for both adult and juvenile offenders.

Extended Family provides a whole family approach to give families what they need to move from unhealthy to healthy behaviors while achieving their personal goals.

Our work is guided by Extended Family’s Four Values:

·       Our Purpose is the purpose

·       Relationships come first

·       Children matter

·       Reentry works – when you work it

By teaching family members to lead themselves, we empower them to set goals for their futures and work to achieve them. Whether struggling with the incarceration of a family member or some other family disruption, we help children and adults manage their stress and emotions in healthy ways.

As we look forward to the new year, we are grateful for all of our partners and supporters who help us fulfill our mission, “To offer help and inspire hope.” For more information about our programs, visit www.extendedfamilyhelp.org.
